What a better reason to write on the blog after a long silence if not to say about Mr.Roselli coming to Bristol?? I think he is now, together with my mum, the biggest fan of Bristol. I agree, Bristol is nice, especially if you are not used to this kind of architecture, with Victorian and Georgian houses. Then the suspension Bridge, Cabot Circus...Maybe, he got some ideas to import to Florence...! Who knows...? Well...not from an artistic point of view of course...but they did nice stuff here...! Maybe from next week you will also find the Mars Milk at the supermarket. Anyway we spent 3 days here, which is great since we never had too much time only the two of us...We took lots of pictures but not one that witnesses that we were together...! Che chioppi...!
Cabot Circus is the name chosen for the new brand shopping mall opened in Bristol last autumn. Do not get the wrong impression...it is not just a shopping centre as we are used to think...it is a kind of new part of the city, made by street, squares and skyscrapers...!! Immediately it became the attraction of the city centre, and I think the most visited place in Bristol. Nice shops, cinemas, restaurants, offices, a hotel, a modern and really cool design. That's the recipe for the success of Cabot Circus. But the fact that really catch attention is the courage wiping off an existing part of Bristol to re-build something modern and beautiful. And impressive was also the time schedule: 10 years from the original idea, 4 years to build everything around 140000 square meters. We can discuss about the fact that the city centre as it was before didn't have too much heritage, or historical buildings to preserve, but we cannot deny that here, as in London, as in many other cities (and I am not only talking about UK, take Potsdamer Platz in Berlin or La Defense in Paris or the City of Art and Sciences in Valencia as examples) they have the courage to re-modern the city, to build things like that. I wish in Italy we had the same mentality, the same audacity. I wish we had no fear to try something out...I am sure people, tourists will appreciate, and I am sure it will mix very well also with all the history that embrace our beautiful country. That's my idea, my non-expert point of view. i appreciate there are very many constraints, but I don't like to see them used as an excuse to never change anything.
